Here We Are, Orange, Virginia
Perfectly situated in some of the Piedmont’s most pastoral country; rolling hills laced with verdant meadows, towering majestic Tulip Poplars, vineyards that make you feel as if you’re in old world Europe, rich, fertile fields transected with mountain-spring fed creeks and rivers, century’s old estates, glorious views of peaked horizons and breath-taking vistas. This is where the Town of Orange lives, and it’s a wonderful place to be.
Taking an easy walk around town you’ll be able to visit the passionate James Madison Museum, the ever-changing eclectic Art Center in Orange, Taylor Memorial Park, the historic Train Station, and see some of the most unique architecture concentrated in a true old-fashioned town with new-fashioned places to go.
Within a half hour of downtown is the beloved Montpelier, the Barboursville Ruins, Waugh Enterprises, one of the nation’s largest distributors of American-made Harley Davidson motorcycles, the Exchange Hotel Civil War Museum, the Wilderness Battlefield, several major wineries, and twenty four other sites listed in the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National register for Historic Places.

Downtown Orange is a rare example of a definitive American town: built from a train station out, the Town grew from the local commerce generated from passengers who needed food and rest, places to stay and the purchases that were made. And like most typical main street towns, Orange has seen better days to be sure: it’s ebbed and flowed, lavished in the downtown stores and services of a successful mill town and agonized as commerce trends changed, the children moved away and the big box industry and foreign trade took its toll. But all things are cyclic and we’re experiencing a resurgence of interest, both economically and culturally, in our downtown. Thanks to the abilities of investors, the vision of hard-working committee members and civic organizations and the guidance of enlightened individuals we are seeing a wonderful trend of interest, involvement and investment.
Orange offers you the glory of the old, the magnificence of nature, the immediacy of the present and the assurance of a bright shining future! It’s why we say, “Sweet Living, Steady Progress!”
